Powertrains
Choose from two powertrains designed to deliver an engaging driving experience without compromising efficiency.
Single Motor Extended Range
This option pairs the rear motor with a larger 82 kWh battery. This configuration extends your range, while an advanced inverter in the motor further boosts efficiency.
Twin Motor
With front and rear motors, this powertrain maximises the larger 82 kWh battery for added power and torque. The result is more seamless acceleration from standstill and enhanced all-wheel drive stability.
Efficient all-wheel drive
The Twin Motor powertrain defaults to rear-wheel drive for efficiency. Switch on all-wheel drive for continuous use.
One pedal drive
All powertrain options include one pedal drive to improve efficiency and make driving smoother. Speed up or slow down using just the accelerator. Keep your foot off, and the car will brake to a standstill.
Electric Range
Choose the EX40 powertrain that fits your lifestyle, whether your days are about meetings and school runs or adventures further afield. Figures are based on WLTP testing standards.
Single Motor Extended Range
Estimated range up to 520 km
Twin Motor
Estimated range up to 485 km
Range is based on local testing standards obtained under specific testing conditions for the fully electric Volvo EX40 which is not carried out on every individual vehicle sold by Volvo and these outcomes are not guaranteed. Range achieved under real conditions varies depending on factors including but not limited to driving style, road and traffic conditions, environmental influences, vehicle condition and accessories fitted, means in the real world the range you experience can differ from that advertised. Advertised figures are meant for comparison purposes. Vehicle certification pending.
Battery charging duration 10-80%
(DC 200kW)
Charge your EX40 from 10 to 80 per cent in around 28 minutes at DC fast charging stations.
Charging reminders
Get charging reminders when the battery drops to 20 per cent. The centre display shows nearby charging stations on Google Maps, along with navigation and estimated charge levels on arrival.
This figure is the typical time to charge from 10 to 80 per cent at a 200kW DC fast charging station. Figures are preliminary and derived from estimates and calculations performed for the Volvo EX40. These outcomes are not guaranteed. Charging times can vary and depend on factors such as outdoor temperature, battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition. Vehicle certification pending.
Electric energy consumption combined
(NEDC)
The EX40 is loaded with features like regenerative braking and climate and battery pre-conditioning to help you maximise efficiency at every turn.
Single Motor Extended Range
18.4 kWh / 100km
Twin Motor
19.4 kWh / 100km
The figures are preliminary and derive from estimates and calculations performed by Volvo Cars for the EX40 which is not carried out on every individual vehicle sold by Volvo and these outcomes are not guaranteed. Battery energy (nominal)
The Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor powertrains use a 82 kWh battery. We suggest charging to 90 per cent for daily driving, our standard recommendation for the best battery life.
Acceleration (0-100km/h)
Enjoy powerful acceleration and control from go.
Single Motor Extended Range
0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds
Twin Motor
0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds
Acceleration time is based on the specified powertrain. Real-world results will vary depending on various factors, including weather and road conditions, tyres and the car's weight.
Max engine power (hp)
The Single Motor powertrain strike a balance between power and efficiency. The Twin Motor powertrain achieves this balance, too, but they’re engineered for a more exhilarating drive.
Single Motor Extended Range
Up to 185 kW / 252 hp
Twin Motor
Up to 300 kW / 408 hp
Power figures are preliminary and derive from estimates and calculations performed by Volvo Cars for the Volvo EX40. These outcomes are not guaranteed. Vehicle certification pending.
Cargo capacity (max) - second row up
The boot of your EX40 can hold up to 536 litres, so it’s comfortable for up to five people to travel with luggage or bulky gear.
Fold down the rear seat backrests to bump that number up to 1400 litres, including a 59-litre underfloor compartment.
Storage under the bonnet adds up to 31 litres of cargo capacity. It’s divided into two sections. Use the upper section for things like charging cables and the lower section for a puncture repair kit or similar.
Trailer max weight
The EX40 offers impressive towing abilities for a compact SUV.
Once you’re rolling, Trailer Stability Assist can help prevent swaying as you drive. Activate all-wheel drive in the Twin Motor powertrains for increased stability.
Single Motor / Single Motor Extended Range
Up to 1500 kg
Twin Motor / Twin Motor Performance
Up to 1800 kg
A distinctive silhouette. Sculpted contours. Scandinavian sophistication. Admiring glances are coming your way.

The EX40 marries form and function in our distinctive Scandinavian style. Details are considered, beautiful, practical.
The silhouette is streamlined for a striking appearance while also housing sensors. The colour-coordinated shield on the front looks contemporary, even forward-looking. It also helps lower air resistance for improved energy efficiency. And wider rear wheels add to the car’s confident stance while optimising handling and control.

A roof spoiler dials up the car’s athletic presence. It also boosts aerodynamic efficiency and hides a brake light and rear wiper washer nozzle. The integrated rear diffuser further improves handling by increasing downforce and minimising drag.

20-inch light and aerodynamic alloy wheels are available for the EX40, featuring a diamond-cut design with contrasting polished aluminium and sleek black paint. The diamond-cut designs use sharp angles and hidden bolts to create the illusion of larger wheels with extended spokes. And glossy black inserts contrast beautifully with the wheel’s aluminium surfaces.

The EX40 packs comfortable seating for up to five people and a spacious boot into a lean package. And while it retains the ride height and ground clearance SUV drivers love, its compact size makes it practical, especially in urban areas.

Our signature Thor’s Hammer headlights automatically adapt the light pattern to optimise your vision without dazzling other drivers.
Using responsive pixel light technology controlled by a front-mounted camera, each headlight unit’s 84-pixel LEDs can shade out up to five vehicles simultaneously – whether they’re coming toward you or in front of you.
The headlights also turn with you when you steer through a curve, illuminating the road ahead.

The boot of your EX40 can hold up to 536 litres. Fold down the rear seat backrests to bump that up to 1400 litres, including a 59-litre compartment under the boot floor.
The inner wheel arches are pushed out of the way to widen the boot and create a flat floor.
Open and close the power-operated tailgate hands-free with a kick under the bumper. You can also use buttons on the tailgate and centre display.
